The original military memorial statue was unveiled at a bombed-out church in Liverpool. The statue depicts a British soldier and a German soldier greeting each other with a football. It chronicles Christmas Day during World War I, when enemy soldiers on the Western Front lay down their weapons, emerge from trenches, shake hands, sing carols, and even take part in skirmishes. This Christmas Truce football statue is a symbol of hope and peace. Sculptor Andy Edwards designed the statue and named it All Together Now. The harm that war brings to people is enormous.
