Introduction
This statue of Zeus is hand-carved from a single solid block of premium natural marble —the material classical sculpture has always returned to, because nothing else holds detail the same way.
The starting point was Pausanias. His description of the hair, the robes, the throne gave our artisans something concrete to work from. The beard and hair are carved in deep, separate locks. The drapery across the lap is worked until it sits right. The throne’s armrests and base carry the ornamental detail the subject calls for.

A client in New York, when the sculpture arrived, said he was “moved to his soul, as if he had seen the god in person.“

FAQ
Does the statue of Zeus still exist?
No. The original was lost before the end of the 6th century AD. What remains are written descriptions and a few representations on ancient coins — which is largely what our sculpture is based on.
What is the story behind the statue of Zeus?
It was made by Phidias around 435 BC for the Temple of Zeus at Olympia — a seated figure of ivory and gold, roughly 12 meters tall, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Ancient writers said a single glimpse of it could make a man forget all his troubles.
How tall is Zeus — and what size is this sculpture?
The original stood about 12.4 meters (41 feet). This sculpture is life-size in human scale. Custom dimensions are available — share your space measurements and we will advise on the right size.
